Chris(Topet) was in town for a GMR Gate to Shack Reunion!
A few weeks ago Topet let me know he was going to be in town this week. We promised to go for a ride when he came down and today we decided on an easy GMR Gate to Shack plus Extra Credit ride. Topet claimed he hasn't been riding much, and yes, his Strava data confirms it, but I have to say he hasn't lost much of his speed. The ride was mostly "chill" but I did test him on a few sections going up GMR. He matched me with every surge and we finished together at the Shack. The second half of the ride he seemed to find his legs and I could tell he was A-OK.
Topet has been in northern California for about two years so it was nice catching up with him today. He's a nice guy and we actually met years ago while I was riding up GMR. He was stopped on the side of the road and I asked him if he was okay. At the time he said he was fine, just taking pictures but later he said he was stopped because he was tired. He was embarrassed for stopping so when I asked if he was okay he lied about the picture taking. LOL, the stories we tell, we feign feeling strong and at times sprints or surges are about attrition, who is going to break first!
I had a great time riding with Topet today and catching up on life. Until next time my friend!
