This was first official ride of the week. The speeds were manageable until Gladstone and that GAWD AWEFUL kitchen sink! Heading home I was tired and then what do you know, I got a darn flat tire!

A Walk Through the Slot Canyons
We rented kayaks and headed to the Slot Canyons. This is a short video of our walk in the canyon. Kayaking in to the canyons wasn't difficult, however if you are prone to motion sickness, you might want to take something for it. The trip to the opening of the canyon is about 2.5 miles. Once in the canyon, you can hike as long as you want. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and food. Don't get carried away with your hike and the amazing views because you still need to kayak back. The kayak ride back is harder because you are tired, boats are making the water choppy and you are going against the current. Keep that in mind when planning your trip. We started our kayaking at 7 am.

Lake Powell
2021 Lake Powell Summer Vacation
We spend several days in Lake Powell. On Tuesday we hiked down to the lake and went swimming. On Wednesday we rented kayaks and headed down to the Slot Canyons. The total trip was was about nine miles including a hike into the canyon. Last week there was a flash flood in the canyon so parts of the hike were pretty muddy. At one point we turned around because there was so much mud it was "almost" impossible to get through. Kayaking back from the Slot Canyons was difficult. We were tired from the hike, there were more boats in the lake causing choppy water and kayaking against the current is tough.

Skyline Dr. (The very top of Sapphire Street)
That was steep!
Yesterday I rode to the end of Sapphire St in Alta Loma, CA. At the end of Sapphire St., I made a left onto Almond St., then a right onto Skyline Dr. I continued heading up until the road ends and you can continue through a poorly maintained road into the mountains. The road was really steep and my guess is at some point is turns into a dirt road.

Broken Shimano Dura Ace Crank Arm
My crank arm is broken! 😢
Yesterday I noticed a weird rolling sensation on the downstroke while pedaling. I thought it might be a loose cleat but after further inspection, I noticed my Shimano Dura Ace right crank arm has a crack and is pulling apart. After some research it looks like this is common for the Shimano Dura Ace FC-R9100 cranks.

GMR Shack and Back
Today Chad, Don and I started our day early and headed up GMR. It was Don's first time on GMR and he did well. On the way down I got a flat. Chad gave me another "spare" tube just in case I flatted again on the way home. Since I had another tube I did a loop around Bonelli Park before ending my ride. On Wheeler and Bonita I saw Andrew and we rode a couple miles before parting ways.
More on Wednesday Bud's Ride
A pack of strong riders
There were two particularly strong riders on the Wednesday Bud's ride, Jason Paez and Hunter Grove. I got to Bonelli as the group was starting their second lap around the park. By then, Paez and Grove clearly pulled away from the pack. The two kept their deistance from everyone else through the third and final lap.
