Earlier this week I was looking for a Domestique to tow me up GMR. It's been a while since I have done any type of climbing and I needed the help. I was nervous about heading up GMR because the goal was Gate to Shack, and I wasn't sure I had it in me. The best type of Domestiques, not only carry my water bottles, extra jacket, spare wheelset, suntan lotion, and food, but they also provide great conversation and encouragement to press on.
Today I enlisted Mike and Doug. Doug didn't carry any of my stuff but he did keep the conversation lively. Next time you are around Doug, ask him about, "that one time he drove off a cliff." Mike, long time bicycle friend, provided Hope. Hope that someday I will be able to climb GMR and not lose sight of him before I am clipped into my pedals.
