Ride a bike, share your experience and love. When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart. ~Diane Ackerman

Accomplishment of the year - 100 miles

Since I started riding I have had many great accomplishments.  The first was actually riding, then it was Marshal Canyon, then Potato, then Baldy, etc.  Well Saturday, I realized another goal of riding 100 miles.

Thanks Jose, Oscar and Rommel for the company.  It was a great trip.

We headed out from Fairplax and Puddingstone Drive at about 6:30 am.  We rode through the streets of Orange County until we were able to hop on Santa Ana River Trail. From SART, it was a speedy ride into Newport.

At Newport we rested for about 30 minutes.  I adjusted my headset and we ate at some beach diner.

From Newport we rode up Pacific Coast Highway to Seal Beach to catch San Gabriel Valley Trail.  From SGVT is was a long 50 miles back to the cars.

SGVT was well paved and we took it all the way to Sierra Madre.  There were a few hills on Sierra Madre and at the tail end of 100 miles ever the smallest ant hills can hurt.  We managed and at this point I started to get a second wind.  I challenged both Jose and Oscar to sprints on Route 66, San Dimas Canyon and Bonita.

10 Things Sex and Cycling Have in Common

10 Things Sex and Cycling Have in Common
Link: http://www.vingle.net/posts/462144-10-Things-Sex-and-Cycling-Have-in-Common

Here is a lis of 10 things sex and cycling have in common:

1. If feels good to change positions once in a while, it will make a long ride more comfortable.

2. Good legs help Everyone knows good legs can go a long way in improving your ride!

3. Chains, velcro, lycra, rubber, leather, and chamois... may improve intensity of your ride.

4. Falling off is embarrassing. But it happens to everyone!

5. You have to keep pumping to get anywhere, but it will be worth the effort.

6. A little lube helps keep things running smoothly. Parts start to break if they get too dry!

7. You never really forget how.. It's just like riding a bike!

8. Most people spend more time talking about it than actually doing it, which is a bit sad if you ask me.

9. You can do it alone, but it's more fun with your friends. The more the better!

10. With practice you can ride for hours without getting off. So make sure you ride everyday!

"Ford Motor Co. recently released a new YouTube video for its 2015 Mustang that features Kayle Leogrande, a competitive cyclist who served a two-year suspension for doping during his racing career, indirectly leading to the downfall of American sports icon Lance Armstrong.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspended Leogrande from cycling in 2008, and his doping case ultimately led investigators to Armstrong’s team, sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service.

"No matter how smart you think you are, getting some exercise might just make you a bit sharper. Researchers at Michigan State University have found that being out of shape could mess with your long-term memory.

Most research into aerobic exercise and memory has focused on children and the elderly, but Kimberly Fenn, assistant professor of psychology, and Matthew Pontifex, assistant professor of kinesiology, wanted to investigate how it affects healthy young adults. To test college-age long-term memory retention—long term is defined as anything longer than 30 seconds—they rounded up 75 students and had them memorize sets of two-word pairs, like “pants-zipper,” and “oxygen-air.”

They also evaluated each student’s fitness level based on factors including oxygen consumption during a treadmill test, participants' weight, percent body fat, age and sex. “About half of the students fell below what would be considered average for their age and sex,” Pontifax says.

Things I’ve Learned About Bikes

Things I’ve Learned About Bikes

"I was searching for an e-mail the other day and I stumbled across one that I wrote about 10 years ago. In a nutshell I had gently poked fun at a friend for going to see the Pixies at the Plaza of Nations, rather than coming along with us to see the Unicorns at the Cultch.

(It’s kind of funny that I even bother mentioning actual band names in this article, but it feels important to me. Deep down I’m hoping the readers will understand how insane that decision was, rather than thinking “what the hell is grandpa talking about?”)

Within two e-mails the conversation had devolved into a passionate and nasty eruption of crazy. It was just totally insane. And as I read through it, all I could think was “Man…I don’t care about anything this much any more.”

And perhaps that’s what “getting old” is all about: realizing that trivial shit isn’t all that important."
