On Thanksgiving, and hours after my ride up GMR, my bike was sitting in the garage, and I was playing with the kids, when BOOM, my rear tire blew out. At the time, I thought it was odd but I simply just replaced it and rode the following Saturday. While on the way up GMR the tire blew out again.
Since this was the second blow out in such a short time, I replaced the tube and returned home. I didn't want to chance it again.
While at home, I inspected the tire and tube and found the tire's bead was damaged and the wire was exposed. The tube was destroyed. Totally blown.
So I did a google search regarding blow outs and both Sheldon Brown and Leonard Zinn had some interesting insight to the cause of this type of blow out.
