Certified vs Non-Certified Bicycle Helmet Impact Test

ARF Presents: Certified vs Non-Certified Bicycle Helmet Impact Test from Athlete Recovery Fund on Vimeo.
ARF Presents: Certified vs Non-Certified Bicycle Helmet Impact Test.. Come along with pro riders Mike Clark, Brandon Dosch and Chad Kerley. This video shows without a doubt the tremendous difference in protection between certified and non certified helmets. We tried to simplify the physics as much as possible but the results are undeniable. Make sure if you are riding BMX you are wearing the proper protection. It could mean the difference between riding again or not.

The Surly Steamroller is Ready for Cyclocross

Yep, I ordered up some tires from Jenson USA and we are a go.  Santa Cross is this weekend at Griffith Park and I can do both the SSCX and Fixed Cross on one bike!  I love it, the Surly Streamroller goes cyclocross!

I set gearing to 46 x 19t.  I hope this works.

I bought some cheap Kenda K161 for $10.50 each at Jenson USA.  These tire are heavy but they work great.  I love the mocha color sidewalls.

I'm Going Back on the Bicycle

This is a great song!  I can see my cousin Liam performing this.I can listen to this one over and over again.

Dogging it, GMR to Baldy - Fixed

Boy am I off my game.  This was a hard ride. I didn't hammer away up the mountain in any of the sections.  Just a mash, grind, push up and up until Fork Plus 8.29.

But I did manage to get there (Baldy).  It was ugly though, and as soon as I got home, I showered and slept. Ugh!

Motherfucking Bike

This one is a classic, I'm on a motherfucking bike!

Glendora Mountain Road - Fixed

Uninspired. I was hoping for rain this morning.  I didn't want to ride, I haven't ridden much these past few weeks.  Sure, I attempted GMR twice during the Thanksgiving Weekend but those rides were small compared to my epic Saturday rides to... to, wherever.

At home, my roller workouts are few and when I do manage to get on the rollers, I can't wait until my workout is over.

I'm not sure whats going on but I've been feeling a bit uninspired when it comes to riding.

So last night I was hoping for rain.  It didn't rain, its 12:05 pm and its still not raining.

I woke up at about 2 am this morning and tossed and turned until my alarm went off at 4:50 am.  Well, I can't hear rain and I'm awake.  I might as well start the motions.  Coffee is made, gear and bike are ready to go.  Cereal for breakfast and my morning constitutional, it's still not raining, so I guess I have to ride.

6 am, I left the house.

The ride to the base of GMR happened.  No hammer-fest, no great pace, I just turned the pedals and eventually got there. I stopped after the first climb and just past Dalton Road.  I was breathing hard, yep this ride is going to suck.

Turning circles, and circles, and circle, finally I made it to the first saddle.  After the first saddle I finally got my groove and it was a breeze to East Fork and GRR.  I stopped and snapped a few photos then decided to head back down.  Today is not a Baldy day.

Ahhh, a nice cold beer on a cold semi-damp day.  Hmmm, I think I have a few beers left over from Thanksgiving.

(I was actually disappointed in the amount of trash I saw while riding up GMR.  It was worse than usual.  I was also majorly bummed by the graffiti.)

The Blow Out

On Thanksgiving, and hours after my ride up GMR, my bike was sitting in the garage, and I was playing with the kids, when BOOM, my rear tire blew out.  At the time, I thought it was odd but I simply just replaced it and rode the following Saturday.  While on the way up GMR the tire blew out again.

Since this was the second blow out in such a short time, I replaced the tube and returned home.  I didn't want to chance it again.

While at home, I inspected the tire and tube and found the tire's bead was damaged and the wire was exposed.  The tube was destroyed.  Totally blown.

So I did a google search regarding blow outs and both Sheldon Brown and Leonard Zinn had some interesting insight to the cause of this type of blow out.
