CicLAVia and Occupy Los Angeles

I am not sure what Occupy LA is all about but our trip thru DT LA took us to City Hall.  It was tent city with a mix of cyclists and protestors.  I tried to google Occupy LA but couldn't find any good info about what is going on.  Can someone point me in the right (Or Left) direction please.
