Ride a bike, share your experience and love. When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart. ~Diane Ackerman

8 Years and Counting

Jamie and I celebrated our 8th Wedding Anniversary via tandem ride to the beach. Meme let us borrow his tandem and after a few tweaks (Raising Seats, Adjusting Handle Bars and Brakes), we headed to Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim Hills.

Riding to the beach was a blast. It took a while before, Jamie and I got in "tandem" regarding shifts, cadence and balance. I have a higher cadence than Jamie so trying to find a happy medium was a bit of a challenge. On tandem you really need to be aware of your partner. Even taking your hand off the handlebars can throw your balance.

This is us right before our long trek to Newport Beach, 22 miles away. Yipee!

Heading onto SART, I spotted a guy in an Incycle Jersey. It turned out to be Christian and his daughter, Katie. They too were riding tandem. They had just finished up their ride as we were heading out. We chatted awhile and Christian offered up some tips on successful tandem riding.

We ate at the Crab Cooker. They have the best Manhattan Clam Chowder. I thought I didn't like Manhattan Clam Chowder but the soup at the Crab Cooker is sooooooo good. After my bowl, I asked Jamie what was the reason for me NOT liking red clam chowder?

This is Jamie posing at the Newport Beach Sign.

We made great time heading back. Heading home we had a decent tailwind to help push us back the way we came.
